Project description

Pursuant to the Lower Austrian Energy Efficiency Act, every municipality in Lower Austria is required to keep energy accounts. All energy consumption by the municipality's buildings and facilities is recorded (electricity, heat and water).

The energy consultant then prepares an energy report and presents the Municipal Council with recommendations for action to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy use.

The service campaign on "energy accounting – showcase municipalities" is a project by the Energy and Environment Agency of Lower Austria in cooperation with the Office of the Lower Austrian Regional Government, Department RU3 for the optimisation of energy accounting and the municipal energy report.

Project objectives

The central project goal is the needs-oriented support of municipalities en route to producing exemplary energy accounts. In this context, the municipalities are supported individually with a range of services offered in accordance with the relevant initial situation.

  • Support for data entry in the free energy accounting tool
  • Analysis of energy accounting and issue resolution
  • Preparation and quality assurance of energy reports
  • Support for everything ranging from recommendations for action to a benchmark tool and documents for presentation in the Municipal Council

In 2016, the goal of 100 showcase municipalities was exceeded when 117 exemplary energy reports were submitted.
